Blokos – France 2013

Type and Forms in Public Space

44flavours — Blokos – France 2013

I love projects that utilize the public space, mainly because they have the ability to reach and affect random viewers. One of my favorite projects is my painting series that uses German WWII bunkers located on the beaches of Brittany – France as a backdrop. These bunkers are very strange objects. On the one hand they’re burdened with a very dark history but, when seen out of context, they also resemble beautiful abstract contemporary sculptures. The fact that they’re located on the beach and that they’re slowly sinking almost gives them a life of their own. I also love how the natural elements work their magic on my paintings – every year I find a new patina. This is a work in progress.
