For the last 3 years we have been invited to take part in the Kunstherbst für Kids project. It’s something that we really enjoy, not only because we think that working with kids is inspiring – which btw. we do – but also because it gives us the opportunity to work in some of the most exciting museums in Berlin. After having worked at the Deutsches Historisches Museum and Martin Gropius Bau, this time we were invited to the Naturkunde Museum. The workshop lasted for 3 days and included a group of kids between the ages of 9 and 11.

We got the idea of working with projections, since we wanted to integrate the items, shown in the museum, into the work. The kids started out with doing a little research in the museum to find inspiration. They discovered all kinds of things, like animal patterns, shapes of stones and stuffed animals in display cases, and started sketching. After that we asked them to paint on slides with glass paint and they created collages with different colored transparent foils and mixed these with the paint. The outcome was great and it was even more amazing to see how much fun the kids had with working on their own creations. To finish up the workshop, we integrated the kids into the installation. By giving them some white sheets, they formed all kinds of sculptures and was projected on with their own colorful collages and paintings. The final result is an exhibition of the different projections and was shown at Naturkunde Museum.
